Looking for things to do in Abu Dhabi? Look no further than a visit to the BAPS Hindu Mandir. Open to people of all faiths, it is the first Hindu temple in the Middle East to be built using traditional Indian methods.

The region's biggest temple was inaugurated this year on 14th February by Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India. Located in the Abu Mureikha region of Abu Dhabi, it is just a 30-minute drive from mainland Abu Dhabi.

The temple stands as a symbol of community and collaboration, with its seven towers symbolising the seven emirates of the UAE. The complex also has two streams of water representing the rivers Ganga and Yamuna, two of the holy river bodies for Hindus. Saraswati, the third holy river, is represented as a beam of light at the temple base.

The holy rivers are also symbolises in the whirlpool like structure called as The Divine Eye, which was designed by the futuristic studio, Apical Reform. The structure frames the temple, inspired by the concept of the third eye in ancient Hindu mythology. The third eye is said to be the spiritual window to the endless potential of humans.

The main temple is 32.9 metres tall, 54.8 metres wide and 79.8 metres long, with a capacity for accommodating up to 10000 people. The temple also has 402 unique pillars of white marble, with carvings of peacocks and elephants to camels, ceremonial processions and the phases of moon and the stars.
