About Big Bus Darwin Hop-on Hop-off Bus Tour
The Red Route circles the city, taking in the best of Darwin's museums, tropical wonders, and natural beauty from the city through to Fannie Bay, with the afternoon route extending further out to East Point Reserve. The morning full loop runs approximately 70 minutes and the afternoon loop runs approximately 90 minutes as it extends to the Darwin Military Museum at East Point. Popular stops include the Stokes Hill Wharf waterfront precinct, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, Crocosaurus Cove, the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens, Mindil Beach and its famous sunset markets, Cullen Bay Marina, Doctors Gully tidal pool, and the Fannie Bay Gaol Museum.
The Deluxe pass includes entry to the Royal Flying Doctor Service visitor facility, where interactive displays illustrate the development of the service and visitors can enter a retired RFDS Pilatus PC 12 plane to see the advanced aero-medical technology firsthand. The main starting point is Stop 1 at the Tourist Information Centre at the corner of Smith Street and Bennett Street on the southern side of The Mall — though you can join the tour at any of the 12 hop-on hop-off stops. Insiders' Tips
Board the first morning departure for the 70-minute loop to get your bearings across the city before deciding where to spend your time. The afternoon extension to East Point and the Darwin Military Museum is well worth staying on board for — the views across the Timor Sea from East Point at sunset are extraordinary. If visiting on Thursday, Friday, or Sunday evenings, the Mindil Beach Sunset Markets run from approximately 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM in the dry season — a must-do Darwin experience.
