Direct flights arrive from virtually every major US city, with international connections from the UK, Canada, Mexico, and select European and Asian hubs. The journey from the airport to the Strip takes 10 to 20 minutes by taxi or rideshare, depending on traffic and which part of the Strip your hotel is on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By car:<\/strong> Las Vegas sits at the intersection of several major highways. From Los Angeles, it is a 4- to 4.5-hour drive on the I-15 North, one of the most heavily traveled weekend routes in the American West. From Phoenix, it is about 4.5 hours via the US-93 and I-11. From Salt Lake City, it is approximately 6 to 7 hours south on I-15. If you are driving from the Los Angeles area on a Friday afternoon, leave before 1 pm or after 8 pm to avoid the notorious weekend traffic backup through the Cajon Pass and into the Nevada desert.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>By bus:<\/strong> Amtrak does not currently serve Las Vegas directly. Bus services from Los Angeles are plentiful and affordable, with FlixBus and Greyhound running the route in approximately 5 to 6 hours. A high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas to the Rancho Cucamonga area near Los Angeles (Brightline West) broke ground in 2024 and is targeting completion ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>From the airport to the Strip:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Uber and Lyft:<\/strong> The most practical option. Book from the official rideshare pickup zone on Level 2M of Terminal 1 (Terminal 3 pickup is on Level V). Fares to the central strip typically run $15 to $25, though surge pricing during major conventions and events can push this higher.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Taxis:<\/strong> Available at the taxi stand outside arrivals. Note that airport-to-Strip taxis use a flat-rate zonal system set by the Nevada Taxicab Authority (approximately $21 to $29, depending on your hotel&#8217;s zone) rather than a meter, plus an airport surcharge and credit card fee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No resort shuttles from Strip hotels:<\/strong> Local regulations mean virtually no Strip hotels offer complimentary airport shuttles. Free shuttles are limited to select off-Strip and downtown properties; check with your specific hotel before arrival.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No rail link to the airport:<\/strong> The Las Vegas Monorail terminates at the MGM Grand and does not connect to the airport. Walking it end to end takes about 90 minutes at a very slow pace, but doing it justice takes considerably longer because almost every building on the Strip is a destination in itself, and most of the best things happen inside the resorts rather than on the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Bellagio<\/strong> is the benchmark against which every other Vegas resort is measured. This 3,000-room hotel, whose eight-acre lake fronts Las Vegas Boulevard with the Fountains of Bellagio, a choreographed water, music, and light show that runs <strong>every 30 minutes in the afternoon and every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The best part? It is<strong> free to watch<\/strong> from the sidewalk. The show at 8 pm or later, when the Strip is fully lit, and the fountain jets reach 460 feet, is the best free entertainment on the Strip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Venetian and the Palazzo<\/strong> together form the largest hotel complex in the world by total square footage, a recreation of Venice in the Nevada desert so committed that there are actual gondolas on actual canals inside the Grand Canal Shoppes. The resort has a concentration of excellent restaurants and some of the best poker rooms in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Caesars Palace<\/strong> is the original fantasy resort, opened in 1966 and still setting the standard for classical excess. You\u2019ll see marble floors, Roman statuary, multiple casino floors, and the Forum Shops, one of the highest-grossing shopping malls in the United States, with a ceiling that cycles through a painted sunrise-to-sunset sequence every hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Cosmopolitan<\/strong> is the most stylish hotel on the Strip for those who want design-forward, non-themed luxury. The rooftop pool, the Wicked Spoon buffet, and the concentration of independent restaurant concepts (rather than celebrity chef brand outposts) make it the choice for visitors who find the themed mega-resorts slightly overwhelming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>MGM Grand, Aria, Park MGM, Vdara, and the Park<\/strong> form the modern southern cluster, all connected by pedestrian walkways through the Park entertainment district. Aria in particular is a genuinely excellent hotel, which is clean, modern, and technology-forward, with one of the best casino floors on the Strip and the most efficient resort operation in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The STRAT<\/strong> at the northern end of the Strip is the 1,149-foot tower that anchors the less glamorous end of the boulevard, with the <strong>SkyPod observation deck <\/strong>and the thrill rides on the exterior of the tower, including the <strong>Big Shot<\/strong> (a pneumatic launch ride at the tower&#8217;s tip), <strong>X-Scream<\/strong> (a see-saw that extends over the edge), and the<strong> SkyJump<\/strong> base-jump experience from 829 feet. The view from the observation deck at 900 feet is one of the best in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fremont Street Experience<\/strong> in downtown Las Vegas, about 4 miles north of the Strip, is the other Las Vegas. It is the original casino district, now covered by a <strong>1,500-foot LED canopy <\/strong>(Viva Vision) that runs free light shows every hour after dark, with zip lines running the length of the canopy above the crowds. The Strip is the obvious draw with 4.2 miles of concentrated spectacle on Las Vegas Boulevard, where billion-dollar resorts compete for your attention, your time, and your money in roughly that order.&nbsp; But Vegas in 2026 extends considerably beyond the casino floor. World-class restaurants from globally celebrated chefs, residencies from the most significant names in music, sports events of global significance, the most dramatic helicopter and plane views on Earth over the Grand Canyon, and a nightlife culture that remains genuinely exceptional by any international standard. Give it three nights as a minimum. The city does not show you its best side on a rushed weekend. Getting There &amp; Getting Around By air: Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is approximately 2 to 5 miles from the Strip and one of the busiest airports in the United States. Direct flights arrive from virtually every major US city, with international connections from the UK, Canada, Mexico, and select European and Asian hubs. The journey from the airport to the Strip takes 10 to 20 minutes by taxi or rideshare, depending on traffic and which part of the Strip your hotel is on. By car: Las Vegas sits at the intersection of several major highways. From Los Angeles, it is a 4- to 4.5-hour drive on the I-15 North, one of the most heavily traveled weekend routes in the American West. From Phoenix, it is about 4.5 hours via the US-93 and I-11. From Salt Lake City, it is approximately 6 to 7 hours south on I-15. If you are driving from the Los Angeles area on a Friday afternoon, leave before 1 pm or after 8 pm to avoid the notorious weekend traffic backup through the Cajon Pass and into the Nevada desert. By bus: Amtrak does not currently serve Las Vegas directly. Bus services from Los Angeles are plentiful and affordable, with FlixBus and Greyhound running the route in approximately 5 to 6 hours. A high-speed rail project connecting Las Vegas to the Rancho Cucamonga area near Los Angeles (Brightline West) broke ground in 2024 and is targeting completion ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. From the airport to the Strip: The Strip: The Main Event The Las Vegas Strip (Las Vegas Boulevard South) is a 4.2-mile stretch of concentrated resort hotels, casinos, restaurants, shows, and attractions that functions as its own self-contained world. Walking it end to end takes about 90 minutes at a very slow pace, but doing it justice takes considerably longer because almost every building on the Strip is a destination in itself, and most of the best things happen inside the resorts rather than on the street. The Bellagio is the benchmark against which every other Vegas resort is measured. This 3,000-room hotel, whose eight-acre lake fronts Las Vegas Boulevard with the Fountains of Bellagio, a choreographed water, music, and light show that runs every 30 minutes in the afternoon and every 15 minutes from 8 pm to midnight.&nbsp; The best part? It is free to watch from the sidewalk. The show at 8 pm or later, when the Strip is fully lit, and the fountain jets reach 460 feet, is the best free entertainment on the Strip. The Venetian and the Palazzo together form the largest hotel complex in the world by total square footage, a recreation of Venice in the Nevada desert so committed that there are actual gondolas on actual canals inside the Grand Canal Shoppes. The resort has a concentration of excellent restaurants and some of the best poker rooms in the city. Caesars Palace is the original fantasy resort, opened in 1966 and still setting the standard for classical excess. You\u2019ll see marble floors, Roman statuary, multiple casino floors, and the Forum Shops, one of the highest-grossing shopping malls in the United States, with a ceiling that cycles through a painted sunrise-to-sunset sequence every hour. The Cosmopolitan is the most stylish hotel on the Strip for those who want design-forward, non-themed luxury. The rooftop pool, the Wicked Spoon buffet, and the concentration of independent restaurant concepts (rather than celebrity chef brand outposts) make it the choice for visitors who find the themed mega-resorts slightly overwhelming. MGM Grand, Aria, Park MGM, Vdara, and the Park form the modern southern cluster, all connected by pedestrian walkways through the Park entertainment district. Aria in particular is a genuinely excellent hotel, which is clean, modern, and technology-forward, with one of the best casino floors on the Strip and the most efficient resort operation in Las Vegas. The STRAT at the northern end of the Strip is the 1,149-foot tower that anchors the less glamorous end of the boulevard, with the SkyPod observation deck and the thrill rides on the exterior of the tower, including the Big Shot (a pneumatic launch ride at the tower&#8217;s tip), X-Scream (a see-saw that extends over the edge), and the SkyJump base-jump experience from 829 feet. The view from the observation deck at 900 feet is one of the best in the city. Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas, about 4 miles north of the Strip, is the other Las Vegas. It is the original casino district, now covered by a 1,500-foot LED canopy (Viva Vision) that runs free light shows every hour after dark, with zip lines running the length of the canopy above the crowds. The old-school casinos at street level are significantly cheaper than the Strip equivalents and retain a character of their own.
