But for the visitor who arrives with curiosity rather than a checklist, Jakarta delivers the finest food scene in Indonesia, a nightlife culture that runs genuinely late, one of the most impressive open-air cultural museums in Asia, and a waterfront leisure complex that turns out to be more fun than it has any right to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indonesia’s capital<\/strong> sits at the northwestern tip of Java on Jakarta Bay, a city that has been the commercial heart of the archipelago since the Dutch East India Company established its Asian headquarters here in the 17th century. The Dutch called it Batavia<\/strong>; the Japanese called it Djakarta<\/strong> during the occupation; and independent Indonesia has been calling it Jakarta since 1945 while gradually developing it into the megacity it is today. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entry Requirements for Jakarta<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Citizens of most ASEAN nations can enter Indonesia visa-free<\/strong>. Citizens of the US, UK, EU nations, Australia, and many others can obtain a Visa on Arrival (VoA)<\/strong> at major Indonesian airports, including Soekarno-Hatta, paying the fee in Indonesian Rupiah or by card at the designated counter before passing through immigration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Electronic Visa on Arrival (eVoA)<\/strong> can be applied for online before departure at evisa.imigrasi.go.id, allowing use of the faster autogate immigration channel. Indian nationals<\/strong> are eligible for the Visa on Arrival at Soekarno-Hatta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Bali Tourism Tax<\/strong> does not apply to Jakarta. The tourism tax is specific to Bali. Always verify current requirements at immigration.go.id before booking.<\/p>\n\n\n
