About Pompeii Entry Ticket
Walk through ancient streets and visit temples, theatres, and grand villas buried by Mount Vesuvius — using the included audio guide to learn about over 130 points of interest as you explore at your own pace. The Forum is the civic heart of the city — surrounded by the temples of Jupiter and Apollo, the colonnaded marketplace, and the law courts. Beyond it, the streets radiate into residential neighbourhoods of extraordinary variety: the grand houses of wealthy merchants with their painted atriums and mosaic floors, the public baths with their surprisingly sophisticated heating systems, thermopoliae (Roman fast food bars) with their circular stone counters, and the bakeries with their millstones still in place. Discover mosaics, marketplaces, and historic homes throughout the site while enjoying the dramatic backdrop of Mount Vesuvius on the horizon — the same volcano whose eruption preserved everything you are looking at.
The plaster casts of Pompeii's victims — created by injecting plaster into the voids left in the volcanic layer — are the site's most emotionally affecting moments, housed at several locations throughout the park. The Amphitheatre at the eastern end of the site is one of the oldest surviving Roman amphitheatres in the world. Note that access to the suburban villas — Villa of the Mysteries, Villa of Diomedes, and Villa Regina — is not included in this ticket. Collect your tickets at Piazza Esedra, in front of the Hotel Vittoria, before beginning your visit.
