About The Field Museum of Natural History Ticket

When the Field Museum opened in 1893, its purpose was to preserve and display the natural history collections assembled for the World's Columbian Exposition. More than a century later, it remains one of the most comprehensive natural history collections ever assembled — 40 million specimens covering geology, botany, zoology, and anthropology, displayed across 35 permanent exhibitions.

The dinosaur collections are the most popular draw. SUE — the T. rex discovered in South Dakota in 1990 — stands as the definitive specimen of her species: the largest ever found, the most complete skeleton in existence, and the best-preserved. Her skull alone weighs 600 pounds. Nearby, Máximo stretches 122 feet across Stanley Field Hall — a full cast of Patagotitan mayorum, the titanosaur discovered in Argentina in 2012 and widely accepted as the largest dinosaur ever to exist.

Inside Ancient Egypt transports visitors into the ancient world across three floors. The centrepiece is a replica of a mastaba — a type of ancient Egyptian tomb — that contains 23 human mummies, over 30 animal mummies, and thousands of artifacts. The Grainger Hall of Gems is equally extraordinary: hundreds of precious stones including one of the finest emerald collections in the world. The Griffin Halls of Evolving Planet trace 4 billion years of life with fossil specimens, interactive displays, and immersive storytelling. Plan a full day — visitors consistently report that 3–4 hours covers the main highlights, but a thorough visit easily takes longer. Book your tickets on Thrillark.

The Field Museum of Natural History Ticket Frequently Asked Questions

Who is SUE, and why is she significant?
SUE is a Tyrannosaurus rex discovered in the Hell Creek Formation of South Dakota in 1990. She is the largest T. rex skeleton ever found, the most complete (with over 90% of her bones recovered), and the best-preserved. Her skull alone weighs 600 pounds and contains the largest fossilised brain cavity of any T. rex. She was purchased by the Field Museum in 1997 for $8.36 million — then the highest price ever paid for a fossil.
How long should I plan for my visit?
Most visitors spend 3–4 hours on the main highlights. A thorough visit covering multiple galleries, a special exhibition, and lunch can easily take a full day (6–8 hours). We recommend arriving at opening and prioritising your top 3–4 galleries.
What is the Discovery Pass and All Access Pass?
Both are ticket upgrades. The Discovery Pass adds one ticketed special exhibition OR one 3D movie to your general admission. The All Access Pass adds all current ticketed special exhibitions plus one 3D movie. Both are available at checkout and provide the best value if you want to see the full museum, including temporary exhibitions.
Can I re-enter the museum on the same day?
Yes — your ticket is valid for the full day it is issued. You can exit to visit the Museum Campus grounds or neighbouring attractions and re-enter with your ticket.
