MACBA Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art Entry Ticket
USD 17.03
MACBA — the Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona — opened in November 1995 in Plaça dels Àngels, in the heart of El Raval, a neighbourhood that was then one of the city's roughest. The building is by Richard Meier, the American architect behind the Getty Center, and it is a piece of the collection in its own right: a luminous white structure with a long glazed ramp climbing the façade, framing views back over the square with every turn. The plaza outside became, unplanned, one of Europe's most famous skate spots — and on any given afternoon the scene out front is as much a part of the visit as the galleries.
Inside, MACBA holds the city's most significant collection of contemporary art: work from roughly the 1950s onward by artists from Catalonia, the rest of Spain and internationally, across 20,000 m⊃2; of floor space. Two full floors are given over to temporary exhibitions, and the programme reaches well beyond painting into performance, film, sound, dance and publishing. It is a museum with a genuine curatorial argument rather than a greatest-hits display, and 2026 marks its thirtieth year.
One detail that makes this ticket unusually good value: entry gives you unlimited access to all current exhibitions and the Collection for one month from activation at the reception desk. Come back as many times as you like. If a show rewards a second look, you're covered.
Also included at no cost: a free digital guide, accessed on your own phone, with commentary from artists and curators and personalised routes through the building.
Allow around 1.5 hours for the galleries. There's a bar and a well-regarded store on site, and the Raval, the Boqueria and the Ramblas are all within a few minutes' walk.

Insiders' Tips
Activate your ticket at the reception desk and keep it — it gives unlimited entry for a full month, so you can return as often as you like during your stay. MACBA says its quietest windows are weekdays from 14:00 and weekend mornings, before the school and group visits arrive. Note it's closed every Tuesday, and that Sunday closing is early at 15:00. Download the free digital guide before you go in and bring headphones, since the artist and curator commentary is genuinely worth having and none is provided. The museum is in expansion until February 2027, so expect construction hoardings around Plaça dels Àngels — access to the Meier building itself is unaffected.
