No two windows are the same shape. Passageways lead nowhere. A stuffed polar bear stands guard in the hall, a giant egg sits on the roof, and a lamp hangs that exists nowhere else on earth.

This was Salvador Dalí’s only permanent home, a cluster of fishermen’s huts above Portlligat bay that he and Gala spent forty years transforming into something as strange as his paintings. Book your tickets and walk straight into the artist’s mind!

About Salvador Dalí House-Museum Ticket

Dalí bought a single fisherman’s hut at Portlligat in 1930, a tiny building on a remote bay outside Cadaqués, and over the next four decades he bought the ones beside it and knitted them together into a house. There was never a plan. Rooms were added as he needed them, corridors wander at odd angles, levels shift unexpectedly, and the result is a building that feels more grown than designed.

It was the only permanent home he ever had, and he lived here with Gala until her death in 1982. Everything inside reflects the two of them: the stuffed swans and polar bear, the mirrors angled so Dalí could watch the sunrise from bed before anyone else in Spain, the oval room built for Gala with acoustics that carry a whisper, and the corridors of objects collected across a lifetime.

The studio is the centrepiece. This is where many of his best-known works were painted, with an easel mechanism that raised and lowered large canvases through a slot in the floor so he could work seated. The north light pouring in off the bay is exactly as he arranged it.

Outside, the olive grove and terraces climb the hillside, scattered with surreal touches, and the views across Portlligat bay explain why he never wanted to live anywhere else.

Entry is strictly limited, with small groups admitted at assigned times, so the house never feels crowded. Allow around 90 minutes for the house and grounds.

Salvador Dalí House-Museum Ticket Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a visit to the Dalí House-Museum take?
Allow around 90 minutes to see both the house and the olive grove properly. The guided route through the house itself is shorter, but the grounds and the views across the bay deserve time. Entry is timed, so your slot determines when you start.
Do I need to book the Dalí House-Museum in advance?
Yes, booking is mandatory. The house admits only small groups of around eight visitors every ten minutes, so capacity is extremely limited and dates sell out well ahead. Book this before arranging the rest of your day.
What time should I arrive at the Dalí House-Museum?
Arrive at least 30 minutes before your assigned slot, since tickets must be collected half an hour beforehand on the day of your visit. The road to Cadaqués is slow and takes at least an hour by car from Figueres. No refunds or changes are possible if you arrive late.
What can you see inside Dalí’s house?
The route takes in the studio where many of his famous works were painted, the living spaces he shared with Gala, the oval room built for her, and the warren of corridors linking the original fishermen’s huts. Outside, the olive grove and terraces look out over Portlligat bay.
Is the Dalí House-Museum wheelchair accessible?
No, the house is not fully accessible, as it was built piecemeal across many levels with narrow staircases. Visitors with reduced mobility or wheelchair users who meet the eligibility criteria receive free admission. Contact the museum ahead of your visit to discuss what is possible.
Where is the Dalí House-Museum and how do I get there?
