About New York Botanical Garden Ticket
The garden's permanent highlights are individually extraordinary and collectively unmatched anywhere in New York. The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory — a soaring Victorian crystal palace of iron and glass built in 1902 and recognised as a National Historic Landmark — houses tropical rainforest environments, a palm court, a desert collection, and rotating special exhibitions that attract international attention. The Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden is at its most spectacular from May to October, when over 650 varieties and more than 2,700 rose bushes come into bloom — some cultivated for fragrance research, others for disease-resistant breeding programmes. The Thain Family Forest is the garden's most serene and most surprising offering — a 50-acre old-growth forest that represents the largest remaining section of New York's original pre-colonial woodland, where some trees are over 200 years old and the ancient canopy creates a complete sense of escape. The Native Plant Garden spans nearly 2.5 acres dedicated to plants of the northeastern United States, while the Everett Children's Adventure Garden provides an engaging and educational natural environment specifically designed for families.
The seasonal exhibitions programme makes NYBG one of New York's most re-visitable cultural destinations — The Orchid Show each February through April is the nation's largest and most admired curated orchid exhibition, while the summer exhibition brings together art and nature in a fresh collaboration that changes every year. The Tram Tour provides a narrated overview of the full 250 acres — ideal for first-time visitors wanting to orientate before exploring on foot. Insiders' Tips
Arrive at the Moshulu Gate entrance directly across from the Botanical Garden Metro-North station for the quickest and most direct access to the garden — this entrance drops you right into the heart of the collections without the longer walk from the main Leon Levy Visitor Center entrance. Visit during The Orchid Show in February through April for the most spectacular single-day experience — but book well in advance as this period sells out quickly. The Thain Family Forest is best explored early in the morning when the old-growth woodland is at its most atmospheric.
