Best Ways to Get Around in Dubai 1. Dubai Metro The backbone of public transportation in Dubai, the Dubai Metro is accessible to all major landmarks in Dubai. The Dubai Metro is the fastest and cheapest mode of transportation in Dubai. The city has 50 metro stations all over the city making up 7 zones and two lines; Red and Green Line which runs through the entire city. The Red Line begins from Rashidiya and ends at Jabel Ali Port, whereas the Green Line begins at Etisalat and ends at Creek Metro Station. The trains are clean, safe, and modern with the stations easy to navigate. Metro Tickets To ride the metro, you can purchase single, return, or day-pass tickets, or opt for a cashless smart card called Nol cards. Nol cards provide a contactless and convenient method of paying fares. You can easily recharge them at metro stations or online. Dubai Metro Timings The Dubai Metro operates daily, with trains running every 3-8 minutes during peak hours and 7 – 15 minutes during non-peak hours. The operational hours are Monday to Thursday: 5:00 am to 12:00 amFriday: 5:00 am to 1:00 amSaturday and Sunday: 8:00 am to 12 am 2. Dubai Public Buses If you’re considering a low-cost option to travel around Dubai, then Dubai public buses are the best option. The buses have connections from Dubai Airport with routes to all major neighbourhoods in Dubai. They have a large bus system featuring approximately 193 bus routes and 1500 stations. To beat the Dubai summers, the RTA has built air-conditioned buses and bus stations and you have seats dedicated for the women and elderly.  The Buses operate 24/7, with services running as frequently as every 20 minutes. Fortunately, cab rates for all the taxi companies in Dubai are the same as they are controlled by the RTA ( UAE Govt.). In case, you urgently need a cab, you can call the RTA for a cab ( 8009090) but the taxi fare would be high. Keep in mind that the minimum wage to pay to travel anywhere is AED 12. Taxis outside the airport follow the meter system, starting at AED 25.  You also need to note that the Red Light on the taxi indicates that it is occupied. Abras It is a different feel altogether to travel in the traditional public transport of Dubai, majorly found in Bur Dubai and Deira. This mode of transport is a present day link to the historic days of Dubai. They are cheap but will offer you a unique experience giving you a glimpse into the city’s ancient roots.
