Here are 10 hiking trails in the UAE to conquer.. Shawka Swata on Wadi Wadi Shawka, one of the closest trekking locations to Dubai, is ideal for novices and is only an hour’s drive away. Shawka offers a variety of routes. You might opt for a brief stroll or extend your visit by including a visit to the Shawka pools. During the two-kilometre trek around the park, which offers multiple pictures stops from which to take in this 5,000-hectare sanctuary, you may expect to spot sea turtles, flamingos, grey herons, and gazelles. 5.Abu Dhabi’s Al Wathba Fossil Dunes Al Wathba, a desert region with blue salt lakes and wetlands teeming with flamingos, is located about 45 kilometres east of the city. However, the Al Wathba Fossil Dunes are the reasons why the trip is worthwhile. Over 1,700 fossil dunes emerge from the golden sands within this seven-kilometre protected region. Each distinctive creation is the consequence of exposure to the harsh elements of the desert over hundreds of thousands of years. The fossils were formally inaugurated as a tourist destination in 2022, with over three kilometres of illuminated pathways and covered seats. Geologists estimate that some fossils are as old as four million years. 6.Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is the biggest in the United Arab Emirates. It took 12 years to build, starting in 1996. As the late Sheikh Zayed’s ultimate resting place, the monument was erected in his honour as the UAE’s founding father. The 82 domes, minarets, and finials on the brilliant white marble tower are adorned with gold glass mosaics. Inside, columns are embedded with mother-of-pearl and semi-precious stones, while the walls are decorated with colourful climbing poppies, jasmine, and scarlet frangipani. The mosque can host 40,000 people both inside and outside, with 7,000 worshippers able to fit in the main prayer hall. 7.Abu Dhabi’s Al Ain Oasis There aren’t many lush green areas in the United Arab Emirates, but the Al Ain Oasis’s shaded pathways are among of the greatest spots to find some natural beauty. Nearly 150,000 date palm trees and 100 various types of vegetation can be found in this 1,200-hectare oasis in the “Green City” of Al Ain, which is 90 minutes from the capital. Visitors can also learn about the falaj, the city’s antiquated irrigation system, at this UNESCO Cultural Site. 8.
