Experience the Grandeur of Ottoman Luxury: The Historical Turkish Bath

The historical Turkish public bath is called a “Hammam”. The Ottoman Empires considered this Hammam as the best and traditional way to relax and self-care. Nowadays, people are more focused towards their self-care. Hammam is one good option for people with such thoughts. However, there are a few protocols that need to be abided. This article from Thrillark helps you to understand Hammam in detail. What to expect? The Turkish bath is a Middle East-originated practice. It represents a community gathering. This type of public bathing requires movement from one chamber to another. Both genders will have a separate bath area, and a person of the same gender as bathers will be the attendants. A male attendant is called Tellak, whereas a female attendant is called a Natir. There will be dedicated trained people to massage your body per your needs. A detoxifying bathing experience. Prerequisites for Turkish Bath Before encountering the World’s best bathing experience, we must adhere to some prerequisites. Bathers need to purchase these items before entering a Hammam. Bathers in Hammam will not be naked. They will be wearing their undergarments or swimwear wrapped with a Peshtemal towel. Peshtemal is a Turkey towel made of natural fibres. Bathers are preferred to purchase this towel before their bath. Scrub and sponge, known as Kese, should be purchased for a perfect hygienic bathing experience. It is necessary to purchase waterproof slippers, olive oil-based soaps, shampoo, and dry fluffy towels individually for health and safety purposes. It is recommended not to wear any makeup or skin products on the body before the bath. The following people are not allowed to use the Turkish bath. Expectant Mothers Pregnant women People with cardiovascular illness People with kidney-related illness People with fever and cold People with sensitive skin or skin-related problems Women in their Menstrual cycle People with Sensitivity to heat issues People with the above-listed symptoms should refrain from using the public community Turkish bath. Every Hammam recommends its bathers bring their items to avoid any communicable infection transfers from one person to another. However, every Hammam will have a dedicated shop to sell all these products. One can choose to visit the bazaar and purchase or buy at Hammams. Nowadays, shops are selling Turkish Hammam gift boxes containing all the necessary items. People visiting Turkey can also prefer purchasing this gift box. Process of Turkish Bath A Turkish bath is a fusion of steam and hydrotherapy. It takes 45 minutes to an hour to complete the process. The Turkish bath centre welcomes the bathers with a traditional beverage like Tea or Gazoz [Sweet Soda beverage]. Then, the customer enters a series of small individual changing rooms. The rooms will have a bed-like platform for relaxing and lockers to safeguard all your valuable things. The next step in Hammam is to move bathers to a large and circular marble Diaz steam room. This high-roof steam room gets its heat through an external furnace. A machine blows the hot air into the room. It is called Hararet. The elevated marble Diaz in the centre of the room is called the Naval Stone. The bathers lie on this stone to experience the warm air through the ducts in the stone. Massaging and washing take place after some time. Once the massage is over, bathers will move to the individual sinks called Kurna, fitted along the walls. The sinks will have both hot and cold water taps. Individuals can fill the sink with water of their desired heat. A metal or copper bowl called Tas is used as a mug to pour the water from the sink. Turks prefer a cold shower at this last stage for a soothing experience and to bring the body temperature to a regular temperature. Bathers get a Sherbet or Ottoman-style traditional fruit juice or Turkish tea. Why Turkish Bath? Across the World, different regions have their bathing style, like the Russian and Moroccan baths. But why should one choose a Turkish bath? The infrastructure of the traditional Turkish bath is entirely different from that of other baths. There are small rooms of dry heat and not the regular saunas. The exposure to this warm air for 10 to 15 minutes helps in oozing out of sweat. This warmness increases blood circulation and opens the pores for deep cleansing and exfoliation. In Saunas, the humidity will be 20%, whereas, in such a Turkish bath setup, the humidity will be 100%. These high temperatures and humidity are generated using high-tech machines and are limescale-free. The bathers enter the communal pool, which is made of marble stone and has high roof ceilings, ornamentally constructed sinks and walls, and skylights for natural lighting and airflow. There is a belief that this process helps our muscles to relax and become smooth. This premise helps the bathers relax alone for as long as they wish. This infrastructure and process are more outcome-oriented than other bathing techniques. Maintenance of Turkish Bath Area The maintenance of the Turkish bath area is also one major factor on why people choose Turkish over other baths. Turks daily clean the Heated Naval stones, Kurnas and Tas, to ensure no bacterial communicable infections spread to the visitors. Cleaning the surfaces of the Hammam, walls, and dressing rooms are also equally important since it is full of moisture and water throughout the day. Turks clean this on a daily basis once the Hammam is empty. Periodic inspections of Steamers and Windpipe ways are also happening to ensure there is no wear and tear. Materials and accessories used are washed and cleaned on a regular basis. Benefits of Turkish Hammam There are many benefits of Hammam. Though there are not many studies to prove this theoretically, many practical experiences have confirmed these benefits. Reduces the Stress All of us are living the most stressful life. This bath will reduce the stress. Skin Cleansing The steam bath can help in cleansing the pores in the skin. Reduces toxins The process of warm

Getting around United Arab Emirates: Transportation Tips

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), whose modern cities are complemented by golden deserts and vibrant culture, is a haven for any traveller. A good experience of transportation in the UAE depends on understanding the complexities of the transport system in the region. This complete guide covers different means of transport in the streets of Dubai and other various parts of the United Arab Emirates, such as Ras Al Khaimah, and how to manage your trip to this amazing country. Air Travel: The Sky’s the Limit Arriving by Air Of course, international travellers mainly choose air travel as the fastest and easiest way to get to the UAE. There are many international airports in the UAE, of which Dubai International Airport (DXB) and Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) are the popular options. Regardless of whether you are travelling with an expensive carrier such as Emirates or choosing a more affordable airline, the country has an excellent air network ensuring hassle-free arrivals at any destination.   Domestic Flights Although the UAE is fairly small, it makes sense to travel by domestic flights in order to visit more than one emirate. Internally, airlines such as Emirates and Etihad run flights and connect major cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah for faster services.   Airport Facilities These modern airports in the UAE have world-class facilities. The airports have duty free shopping, lounges and efficient immigration. There are a variety of services like sleep pods and a Zen garden to ease tension at the Dubai International Airport. Land Transportation: Roads Less Traveled Road Networks Land transportation is top-notch in the UAE because of its well-maintained roads. Roads provide seamless connectivity as you drive from one emirate to another or go for an adventurous road trip to the deserts. The country has modern highways with clear signages enabling smooth navigation.   Renting a Car Renting a car offers comfort at affordable prices and is suitable for those who want flexibility and independence. A number of rental agencies are available both internationally and locally around major airports and city centres with varying types of cars for rent, depending on your preference. You will be able to explore places such as the Liwa Desert or the scenic coastlines at your own speed when you hire a car in the UAE.   Public Buses The most cost-effective and convenient means of public transport in the Emirates is the public buses. In fact, there are many buses operated by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai as well as some local authorities which link up popular tourist destinations with different residential areas. The air-conditioned buses of the Emirates are a comfortable choice, especially for people on a tight budget.   Intercity Taxis If you are going for inter-emirate travels, you can consider taking an intercity taxi. The metered service is commonly associated with these taxis and they have designated taxi stands. The system is straightforward, time-saving, doesn’t necessitate reservations, and easy to use. Cruising the Waters: Nautical Adventures Cruise Ports It is getting more and more common for people to cruise in the United Arab Emirates. This scenic approach allows exploration of many countries of the Arabian Gulf. Different cruise lines cater services at the Dubai Cruise Terminal, Abu Dhabi Cruise Terminal, and other ports leading to the UAE’s cultural attractions, as well as other historic and modern sites.   Cruise Itineraries The international cruise lines provide several different itineraries, which often involve different ports in the UAE. These cruises cover Dubai’s iconic skyline and Abu Dhabi’s cultural richness, providing passengers with an immersive experience. From visits to the historic Al Fahidi district to adventurous desert safaris, tour packages include the best spots in the UAE. Be mindful to select an appropriate package according to your preference. Efficient Urban Transport: Navigating Cities Dubai Metro Dubai, in particular, has an efficient and up-to-date metro system, which is very helpful for exploring the city. Dubai Metro has two tracks – the red and green lines that connect important points, shopping districts as well as several cultural attractions. Most importantly, it’s cheaper in money and time compared to other means of transport, especially during rush hour.   City Buses Major cities have comprehensive bus networks that serve people who desire to tour the urban areas of the UAE. With long-distance bus services managed by the RTA in Dubai and similar entities in other emirates, the city buses offer easy navigation through the major cities of the UAE. Air-conditioned buses ensure comfort and ease for these explorations.   Taxis and Ride-Sharing There is no difficulty in getting a taxi to roam around the cities as they are readily available in UAE cities. Whether you opt for traditional taxis or ride-sharing services like Uber and Careem, you will get several choices according to your budget. These services are either metered or provide transparent pricing, making them more user-friendly for visitors. Desert Adventures: Navigating the Dunes Desert Safaris Travellers who seek the authenticity of the UAE should explore its iconic deserts. Tourists can go on amazing desert safari rides which are mostly organized by tour operators. The desert terrain is navigated by skilfully driven 4×4 vehicles giving you a thrilling expedition. Some tours may involve traditional Emirati activities such as camel riding and sandboarding, among others.   Self-Drive in the Desert If you are up for an even more adventurous experience, take a 4×4 rental vehicle and drive for yourself in the desert. Taking on such an adventure allows you to make your own route for the expedition and explore the amazing sand dunes at your own pace. Make sure that you follow the proper guidelines as you venture into the amazing golden deserts of the country.
